Flitch Sawing to Highlight the Crotch Area in Wood

How many saw cuts does it take to make a ‘flitch’?

Two; one cut on each side of the slab.

I cut this piece of maple last September and since then it has been sitting outside covered under black plastic, curing and developing character in the wood. This past weekend I had to start clearing out a space for some new wood that is coming in, so as I was moving wood around I spotted this one.

I will be showing in some following stories as to how this one is cleaning up….and also the way the wood is speaking to me as what is therein.
