“Steppin’ Out”

''Steppin' Out'', front view''Steppin'Out'', back view

Yes, well it sure has been some time since I posted last, but with winter snows on their way out, I'm finding some time to process some pictures.

This is a piece that I finished up over the winter while working out in my workshop in the barn. I started by carving on both sides with great detail going into the backside. Both pieces are of maple wood that has been finished in tung oil for the top piece and varnish on the base. I have hand rubbed both finishes.

Having just showed this piece at a show this last weekend I found that many people were intrigued by the name, "Steppin' Out". The name was chosen since when viewed from the backside the figure reveals itself as by coming out of the wood in full figure.

I have some more pictures of wood art to post in the days following and will also be writing of techniques used and the many finishes that I use.
